Type 8808

BK Medical ultrasound transducer Type 8808

Simultaneous biplane: the urologist's gold standard for prostate biopsy

  • The world's best sellling prostate transducer
  • High frequencies for excellent near field scanning
  • Simultaneous biplane feature is invaluable for orientation
  • 3-D and harmonic imaging for easier identification of lesions
Accurate staging is critical to the management of prostate cancer, particularly when selecting candidates for either a radical prostatectomy or other therapeutic procedures. The 8808 is the prostate biopsy gold standard, with features that help with more effective staging.

Removable biopsy channel becomes an integrated part of the transducer

Major benefits of this unique, patented design:

  • No contamination – the transducer is ready to be used again quickly, even after transrectal biopsies. During this type of procedure, the biopsy channel attachment is isolated from the transducer shaft itself by a condom. After use, the attachment is removed and the condom replaced.
  • The removable biopsy channel becomes an integrated part of the transducer. The needle path is angled optimally through the channel bracket instead of running along the shaft of the transducer. The angle enables you to reach the targeted biopsy areas easier, without having to manipulate the position of the transducer and creating greater patient discomfort.
  • The wide sector image planes generate an iso-center where the longitudinal and the sagittal ultrasound beams intersect. The biopsy needle path runs through this iso-center, providing added security for systematic biopsies by having both image planes presented simultaneously on the monitor and making the true position of the needle more easily visible in a realistic spatial environment.
  • Both reusable and single-use biopsy channel brackets are available. The 8808 is compatible with a number of modern sterilization techniques, including immersion and STERIS SYSTEM 1®.

The probe's unique ability to display both transverse and sagittal images live simultaneously is an invaluable orientation aid when you are performing multiple biopsies.

Visualization of lesions in three dimensions appears to allow improved assessment of capsular disruption, which is a critical factor in staging prostate cancer. More accurate detection of capsular disruption via 3-D imaging may help to prevent unnecessary surgery*.

The 8808's prostate 3-D imaging is the best means of identifying peripheral and central zones and enlargement of the transition zone, and provides clearer visualization of lesions which may have gone undetected in other modes*.

Harmonic imaging enhances any hypoechoic structures and suppresses hyperechoic phenomena to give better visualization of hypoechoic lesions. Enhanced tissue differentiation may improve diagnosis.
